Things to See & Do
St. Elijah Romanian Orthodox Church Museum
Community: Inglis

St. Elijah Romanian Orthodox Church is located in the Lennard community north of Inglis. This parish is unique in that it was established by Romanian immigrants from the Carpathian Region more than one hundred years ago and was the only rural Romanian settlement in Manitoba.
The church was built in 1908 and is a replica of Romanian Orthodox Churches in Bukovyna, with simple rectangular shape and rounded end, interior sculptured rafters, processional crosses and icons.
Today only a handful of descendants of the original pioneers remain in the area. However, the parish remains active and church services continue to be held once a month. St. Elijah celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2003.
With a couple days notice, tours can be arranged by calling 204‑564‑2228. There is a small cost for tours.
Location: 5.6 km (3.5 miles) northwest of Inglis in the Lennard, Manitoba community.
